Sumter, SC - Georgia/Carolinas PCI and Florence Concrete Products (FCP) recently joined forces with Liberty STEAM Charter School to provide 150 fourth-grade students with an engaging, hands-on introduction to the world of precast concrete.
As part of Liberty STEAM’s mission to prepare students for diverse career pathways in the trades, manufacturing, and higher education, the event offered a unique inside look at an essential and often overlooked industry. Students met with Florence Concrete Products employees to explore a variety of career opportunities—ranging from engineering and design to production and project management.
To make the experience even more interactive, students created their own precast concrete LEGO bricks, blending creativity with practical, real-world skills. The day served as both a learning opportunity and an inspiration, sparking curiosity in the next generation of industry leaders.
Earlier this year, Florence Concrete Products was recognized by the Liberty STEAM Charter: A School of Inquiry, Innovation, & Impact Board as a valued Community Partner for its commitment to education and workforce development. In April, the company hosted plant tours for 150 Liberty STEAM fourth-grade students, allowing them to see a working precast facility in action.
During their visit, students observed the full process—from concept and design to production—gaining a firsthand understanding of how precast concrete is used in commercial buildings, bridge spans, and other large-scale projects.
